Employment Rights and Expectations

All of the Cameron Balloon employees have particular rights and Cameron Balloons, as an employer, has particular expectations of them.

Some of the things that the employees might expect are:

  • a fair wage
  • fair treatment by managers
  • safe and clean working conditions
  • access to computer records held on them
  • holidays
  • training as appropriate
  • to join a trades union or staff association.

In return, Cameron Balloons might expect its employees to:

  • arrive at work on time, and be reasonably pleasant and properly dressed
  • obey reasonable instructions
  • work safely and treat equipment with care
  • carry out a reasonable amount of work in a day
  • let Cameron's know if they cannot get to work (through illness, for example)

Contracts

Once Cameron Balloons formally offers a job and the candidate accepts it then a Contract of Employment needs to be drawn up. This is the legal agreement between the employer and the employee and is designed to protect both. Included in it, amongst other things, are details of the conditions of employment - the normal hours of work, entitlement to holidays and holiday pay and sickness benefits.

Employer organisations and trades unions

Employers join together and form organisations to provide help and support for each other. These may be trade associations, local organisations such as Chambers of Commerce and Chambers of Trade or national organisations. The most prominent national organisation is the Confederation of British Industry, usually known just by its initials as the CBI. It also holds an annual conference and represents the views of employers to the government.
Employees have the right to join a trades union at their place of work. Trades unions have worked hard over the years to make conditions safe, fair and as comfortable as possible and to give workers rights to extra pay for, for example, overtime or having to work in dirty, noisy or dangerous conditions.
