Reception

Introduction

Welcome to the factory floor. You have come into the reception area and from here you can go into anywhere else in the factory. You will immediately notice that Cameron Balloons, like many businesses, does not break down each of the functional areas into separate departments. Whilst each function still has to be carried out, it is not necessary for them to be carried out in completely separate departments. The main departments in Cameron Balloons are:

  • Operations - this looks after Production, Design, Purchasing, Stock Control, and Research and Development
  • Marketing and Sales - this looks after all aspects of advertising, selling and Customer Service
  • Finance and Accounts - this looks after all of the income and expenditure of the business
  • Reception - this looks after all the Administrative duties
  • Human Resources Management is not a separate department, but has responsibility shared amongst the managers of each department and Don Cameron himself.

You can access any of these areas from anywhere in the factory by clicking on the relevant area of the factory floor plan on the left-hand side of the screen. Clicking on the reception area will always return you to this page.

To help familiarise yourself with the factory and its layout you can also take a photographic tour. This tour will take you around every area of the factory, and show you some of the people who work in each section at Cameron Balloons.

Each section of the factory has a variety of resources including an explanation of how that business function is carried out, some photos with questions, worksheets, relevant theories, issues and problems faced by the company in that area and some further work that you could consider.

In this section you can read:

  • Functional areas: An Introduction
  • Location
  • Organisational Structure
  • Explanation
  • Administration
  • Customer Services
  • IT Support
  • Human Resources
