Different businesses can be involved in a wide range of activities. Some businesses are involved in selling goods or services, or both. It is possible that one company is involved in a number of different activities, i.e. making and selling goods. Business activity can be classified in three ways.
Extraction of raw materials (e.g. agriculture and fishing for food, forestry and mining for materials).

The manufacture of goods (e.g. consumer goods such as radios and capital goods such as machine tools).

Sales of goods (e.g. retail, wholesale, mail order, internet) and services (e.g. financial, health care, leisure and sport, internet access, transport and communications).
